ACMA approves Direct to Mobile services
September, 2024. The ACMA has vindicated the Ar@wave vision for Direct to phone service. Invented by Air@wave in 2015, Direct to Mobile service from Space is officially authorized in Australia without any further regulatory approvals necessary.
All mobile spectrum in Australia is now potentially available to achieve 100% mobile coverage where there is no terrestrial coverage. The implications are far reaching including ending the digital divide due to coverage or the high cost of satellite terminals/services.
“After considering issues raised in consultation submissions, we confirm that International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT)-based satellite direct-to-mobile services can be operated under Australia-wide spectrum licences without the need for further approval from the ACMA.”
